I did it.

Ok, here it is. The agony and the reward. I warn you, no laughing. I had wanted a thinner bird with some deep magenta and blues in the black feathers but it was explained to me that he was going to do sort of a Japanese style motif, so after some indecision I thought, well if I were commissioned for a painting and someone started telling me how to paint it, I would think twice about the commission, so I said, go for it. I'm happy with it.

That's looks really cool, Gardenia (although I'm not a fan of tattooists who want to impose their own style on their clients).

Wear it with pride. I'm sure you will.

It's BEAUTIFUL!! You know, I bought a necklace that looks just like the medallion. I rarely buy jewelry, but it was so lovely I couldn't resist.

You have some truly unique ink. Kudos to you for your bravery! And...may you have the happiest and homiest Christmas yet!

nice bird! If I ever got a tattoo, I would end up covered with them, because I would never be able to settle on an image, so I would collect and collect and collect until I was a big mess of ink. C'est la vie.

mister anchovy - I could see where they would be addictive as some claim - I have my eye on a peacock with red bamboo behind him.......

sme - the medallion - the Tree of Life - my daughter has a necklace too - I always wanted one! lots of meaning in more ways than one - my son used to always paint trees.....

Nice bird. Hard to find them these days in cities though. It must remind you of those warm tropical forests.

Oh, I am SO GLAD you went ahead and did it!!! It's a great piece, too. The agony is temporary, I assure you; you won't regret it once it's healed. Go you!

Have a wonderful Christmas, and all my very best wishes for 2007!

Well I have to admit when I first heard about this I was speechless, where is a rare thing in itself. I also probably am one who recieved a Christmas Present in this as I truly appreiciated you doing this. Perhaps the value of the unexpected. Now that I see it, I absolutely love it. I hope your mom does not fall over.. Maybe you can get her one for her birthday. :-D

I hate to set the example of cowardice, buttuh, notta telluh mother nuthin'. Keepa laig covered while visiting. Depends on who dies first who gets to see the tattoo. Whoo. Now all you younger folks out there - you are either wondering in amazement why, after passing 50 years old should one still be scared of their mother? Or else you are saying, Oh no, ya mean this will never end as long as one of us is alive? Nope, it don't. :)

P.S. Yes, I intend to remain in the closet at a local level. :)

hi Gardenia,
I love this set of pictures and your choice of tatoo.
Just for that, I am linking you to my blog.
You are an inspiration!

camie vog - I'm going to post up some pics one of these days of my son's paintings of trees - if you have a Bible around, read Revelations 22:2 - that's what my "healingtree" thing is based on...unbeknownst to me, he was working off the same scripture. For me, the tree grew out of a very troubled, painful time. The tree symbolizes arising out of that time, and hopefully I'm continually becoming a healing influence myself. Hopefully.
